World Record Dive Attempt - August 11, 2007

As part of the Second Annual Legends of Diving Festival we will once again attempt to break the world record for divers in one location. The current record is held in the Maldives. In the inaugural Legends of Diving festival we went after the world record for most divers in one location and recorded what we believe is the Ohio record of 303 divers in one location for a single dive. Set your calendar for August 11, 2007 to be a part of this record-setting dive attempt.

Legends Begin to Line Up to Appear with Zale Parry for Second Annual Festival

One of her several photos on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Zale Parry is credited with appearing on the cover for the first SI swimsuit edition, She will appear with others in the second annual Legends Festival August 10-12. Tradition was started in 2006 with an all-night big screen showing of dive shows. Sea Hunt returns, but the main feature will be the classic 3D showing, Creature from the Black Lagoon. Set your calendar for August 10-12, 2007 to be a part of the Second Annual Legends of Diving Festival. Zale Parry, arguably the most famous female scuba diver in the world today, will appear with others in the Second Annual Legends of Diving Festival August 10-12 at the Portage Quarry Recreation Club. As a complement to the appearance of Zale Parry of Sea Hunt, Alec Peirce returns with an assortment of memorabilia from the famous TV show. Bring your own 3Dglasses for the Saturday night showing of the 1954 3D classic, Dr. Sam Miller at the Portage Quarry in 2006 Creature from the Black Lagoon. A limited supply of anaglyph glasses will be available for the movie. Make sure you get the most out of the movie and bring your own. Sam Miller, whose take on scuba history was a crowd pleaser in 2006, will make a second appearance and speak about early equipment with the beginning of dive certifications. Pack up your vintage dive gear and swap it out for more vintage dive gear in the second annual Vintage Dive Gear Swap Meet, Sunday, August 12. Arrange for a table, or browse the tables for dive gear that revolutionized diving. The best legends will be there to evaluate it and verify its authenticity.

Peirce of Scuba 2000 Returns

Alec Peirce of Scuba 2000 returns for the second annual Legends Festival with memorabilia on Sea Hunt and Lloyd Bridges. Bridges starred in the show which ran from 1958 to 1961 and inspired many who took up SCUBA diving for a living and for recreation.

As a complement to the appearance of Zale Parry, Alec Peirce returns with an assortment of memorabilia from the famous TV show. His presentation and late night big screen viewings of Sea Hunt at the inaugural event was a big hit with the attendees. Alec Peirce attributes his interest in the sport of scuba directly to his life-long hero, Lloyd Bridges, and to the Sea Hunt show. Scuba 2000 is recognized as the finest scuba training facility in Canada and one of the best in North America. The A12 Landing Vehicle, Tracked (LVT) returns to the quarry. This LVT was used in the filming Flags of Our Fathers, a story of Iwo Jima directed by Clint Eastwood. Look carefully in the movie and you can see the distinctive Tom's Joy on the side of this LVT. This is one of six known LVTs in operation.

A Big Weekend - 2006 Legends

World Record Attempt: Divers from 17 different states gathered at the edge of Portage Quarry to break the record. Mark your calendar for August 10-12, 2007 for the Second Annual Legends of Diving Festival and the record dive attempt on Saturday, August 11, 2007. Get the Legends of Diving surface pictures from the meet and greet on Friday, to all the events on Saturday, and the finale on Sunday. The rooms are under the name Portage Quarry Divers. The rate includes a very nice continental Breakfast. These are very nice rooms and there is a free shuttle to and from the Quarry and key spots in town by the motel.

The hotel is thirty minute's from Toledo Express and 1 hour and a half from Detroit. The motel is from I-75. Get off at the Bowling Green exit and go east toward the university. The motel is on the left next to McDonalds.
